“I am a writer.  I write stuff.  It’s what I do, most of the time.

Normally that means labouring over a grubby keyboard for hours on end trying to produce something worthy of publication and when it goes well … it’s great.

When it doesn’t … that’s when I find my eyes wandering over to my inbox.  Is there a comic offering from my college friend and nemesis, Tooper?     And if there is, will this be the day that I won’t be able to match it?”

Tooper said -

“When Commy and I we were at college, our shared admiration for the late, great British comedian Tommy Cooper saw us through some pretty dark days.  Inventing cooperisms became our default comic mode.

About two years ago I made the mistake of re-igniting our old college skirmishes by sending one small quip via email.  I was in the grip of writers’ block and in the absence of any literary inspiration it seemed like a good way to channel some creativity.  Little did I know the monster it would become.”

It was not long before competetive natures kicked in and thereafter most working days were overshadowed by the never-ending quest of matching joke for joke.  Over time and with inboxes bulging with comic material, the decision was finally made; enough was enough! This  comic war of attrition could not continue.  There was an honest living to make.

However, it seemed a waste not to share them.  Someone had to record them for posterity.

Hence my friends, The Commytooper Blog emerges blinking into the world …
